Announced the Barcelona football that midfielder Ibrahim Afellay underwent surgery for a cruciate ligament injury in his left knee Monday and is expected to return to action after nearly six months.
Barcelona said in a statement that the Netherlands midfielder, aged 25, suffered the injury in training last month and underwent surgery in Barcelona.
Said coach Bert van Marwijk Dutch team last week, he was convinced that Afellay will be fit in time to participate in the European Championship to be held next year in Poland, Ukraine, and it represents a key element in the composition of its team.
